The several teams stayed up for 2 or 3 days (I don’t recall exactly… no surprise) to get a game mocked up on a variety of platforms, and ours was a GameMaker side-scroller called “Crickman.” I still have the files. We presented the games to the community on July 31. This was all tied to IGDA somehow (in which I held membership for a few years), and the Women’s Cricket Word Cup.
This was with a partner, but I don’t know whether that person wants to be mentioned.
This is pronounced “daré,” as in the Italian verb “to give.” FertiLab held other Dare events as well, like Solar Dare.
Sizzle Pie closed abruptly in early September, 2022.
Craft Crickets seems to be closed now.
In July of 2017, in Eugene OR, I in the FertiLab Thinkubator event called “Cricket : Showcase.” Austin Miller and Zoe Anton of provided cricket snacks for the event, and talked the folks at into putting crickets on some pizzas for us.
The crickets were farmed over at their place on Conger Street, and freeze dried, so there were no squishy bits. You can see from the picture that there were not only plain ones, but different seasonings. They tasted like crunchy little things, and really the only drawback (to my taste) was that you’d end up with little pieces of leg floating around your mouth; however, given that they can be milled into flour, that would no longer be an issue.
This entry would qualify for the Ingredients section were it not for the fact that I don’t use them as ingredients in anything.
